A BILL to amend and reenact section four, article four, chapter
eighteen of the code of West Virginia, one thousand nine
hundred thirty-one, as amended, relating to salary increases
for county board of education superintendents.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of West Virginia:

That section four, article four, chapter eighteen of the code
of West Virginia, one thousand nine hundred thirty-one, as amended,
be amended and reenacted to read as follows:
ARTICLE 4. COUNTY SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS.
§18-4-4. Compensation.
On or before the first day of May of the year in which the
superintendent is appointed, the board shall fix the annual salary
of the superintendent for the period of appointment for the term
beginning on the first day of July following.
Whenever an increase
by the Legislature in the state minimum salary
schedule for teachers becomes effective, the board shall increase the annual
salary of the superintendent by an amount equivalent to the salary
increase that the superintendent would receive from placement on
the state minimum salary schedule for teachers at his or her
classification of training and years of experience.
The board
shall pay the salary from the general current expense fund of the
district.


NOTE: The purpose of this bill is to
provide for salary
increases for superintendents which coincide with legislative
increases in the state minimum salary schedule for teachers.
